To say that the weather has been different, maybe a little
difficult to enjoy the outdoors this Fall, is maybe a slight
understatement. The record below average temperatures that we have been
experiencing and early snow are just a couple signs that Fall may have been
forgotten this year.
That said, this week looks to be set up to be more "fall
like" and my youngest son is super excited to be able to get back outdoors
for our evening walks. He likes to call them "Flashlight Walks"
in the Fall. The sun goes down or is already down by the time we head out
on our walks, which is an obvious difference from our sun-filled summer
walks. So to his excitement (and mine) Fall offers a cool, fresh-aired
walk, and an opportunity to explore with flashlight in hand.
What kid doesn't enjoy being in charge of a flashlight?! On
our Flashlight Walks, he gets to focus his light on and point out things of
interest along the way. It is amazing some of the things he notices along
our walk through the light of his flashlight, things that have been in our path
before like trees or signs and new things like bugs or fallen leaves. It
brings a new perspective to the things we notice and those that we take for
granted in the light.
Who knows, you may even catch the sunset. This is one of our favorite parts!
We hope that you are able to head outside this week and enjoy a
Flashlight Walk too! Whatever you do during the "warmer"
temperatures this week, enjoy your next adventure!
